Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s Dr. Don Schaffner (food safety specialist) and Dr. Bill Hallman (expert in risk communication) provide the following statement which may be shared with those inquiring about such consumption risks.
Cooking chicken to 165°, and cooking eggs until they aren’t runny, will destroy the HPAI virus. Pasteurizing milk does the same thing.
The New Jersey Department of Agriculture is monitoring the situation, and updates will be provided as they become available.
