In 1889 Agarwal’s great- great grandfather started a pure ghee business in northern India. Building upon the family legacy, in 2008 Agarwal decided to bring the ghee business to the US and started Pure Indian Foods. The company’s vision is to, “offer great tasting, grass-fed, organic ghee products at reasonable prices that will help ghee achieve the same sacred superfood status in the U.S. which it has enjoyed in the Indian tradition for millennia.”
We had the pleasure of interviewing Sandeep Agarwal, founder and owner of Pure Indian Foods regarding the companies’ experience and engagement with the Food Innovation Center at Rutgers University. Here is what he had to say:
What need or issue made you reach out to the Food Innovation Center at Rutgers University for food safety training? “I came from an IT background, and wanted to launch a food business. I needed assistance about food manufacturing, related processes and regulations, and the Food Innovation Center at Rutgers University was a perfect fit.”
What services and value did we provide? “A kitchen equipped with appliances that we needed to kick start our business, along with access to very knowledgeable staff.”
How and where were you able to apply the services? Was it beneficial? “We were able to successfully launch many new food products.”
Would you recommend the Rutgers Food Innovation Center to others? Why? “Yes, FIC is a one-stop; certainly, for food entrepreneurs. They have facility, equipment, and staff to help you every step of the way.”
